time for a discussion!

Ever since I released it a few months ago, I’ve been wanting to create a place online where people could come if they had questions, comments, thoughts about my book blur: finding jesus in a fuzzy world.

Discussions are just so much more fun than talking to yourself.

Unfortunately, I didn’t have a good idea of how to do it… I needed it to be interactive, where people could post their thoughts and contact info. My blog was the obvious choice since it does those things, but as much as I liked Voxtropolis, the URL was long, a bit unwieldy, and not as permanent as I wanted.

But THEN I moved my blog to my site! One problem was solved, but I still didn’t know the best way to accomplish what I wanted. Should I create a post to store the dialogue? I suppose I could, but posts get pushed more and more to the background as new posts take their place at the top of the hierarchy… so that wouldn’t do.

Today it hit me: a Page.

The answer was so ridiculously simple, I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it sooner (actually, it’s completely ridiculous). I could create a Page that would exist outside my posting structure that would remain at a static address (which, if you’re bored with this explanation, is: http://blog.joshallan.com/blur).

Of course, there were still issues, and I had to modify the WordPress/K2 Page Template source code to allow comments to appear on my Pages, but now… FINALLY… we’ve got our discussion page!

A link to my blur discussion page will always be in the page menu above, so if you’ve read some or all of my book please stop by… I’d love to hear your thoughts about blur — let the dialogue commence!
